The Challenge: Wild Designs, Built to Party

When P&O Cruises dreamed up the “Greatest Nightclub at Sea” experience for their Arvia cruise ship, they envisioned a dazzling party where performers embodied the excitement, fun, and energy of the ultimate nightlife. The costumes? They needed to embody “cool” in the most playful, spectacular way possible. Think wild imagination meets impeccable craftsmanship.
The brief to Plunge Creations was clear: create a series of costumes that were visually stunning, hard-wearing for repeated performances, and versatile enough for dancing and entertaining in tight spaces. These show-stopping outfits had to set the tone for a crazy, immersive party and ensure that every cruise guest felt swept up in the magic.

How We Made It Happen

Armed with mood boards, sketches, and an arsenal of ideas, Tim Plunge, our creative director, dove headfirst into the design phase. Collaborating closely with the client, we refined each concept to make sure it hit that perfect mix of function and fabulousness.

Our talented team of designers, tailors, and fabricators took each idea from sketch to reality, pouring expertise and cheeky ingenuity into every stitch, seam, and LED bulb. Each costume came with its own challenges—whether it was crafting a lightweight puppet-able tongue for lips or designing a mirrorball mask with flawless two-way vision. But we were up for the challenge and then some.

Let’s dive into some of the highlights:

• Angler Fish: UV-reactive brilliance with illuminated eyes, a hinged jaw, and a glowing lure. Equal parts mesmerizing and menacing.
• Cocktail Costume: A martini glass masterpiece, lit up with LEDs and packed with glitz—complete with a cherry-on-top hat and sequinned stilettos.
• Deckhead: A wearable DJ station featuring patch panels, illuminated cabling, and optional working speakers. Party? Delivered.
• Flamingo: Pink fur, feathered glam, and a cheeky pinstriped waistcoat. This quirky mascot costume was a strut-worthy star.
• Giraffe: A towering spectacle featuring a bespoke-printed lycra bodysuit with extended crutch-like legs, an oversized giraffe mask, and a fur-trimmed neck. The performer’s vision cleverly came through the giraffe’s neck, ensuring both height and mobility.
• Lava Lamp: A glittering, glowing design with LED lighting and a cooling fan to keep performers grooving under the disco vibes.
• Lips: Oversized high-gloss lips with holographic sparkle stole the show. A wet-look glitter tongue could be animated by the performer, creating a very cheeky, playful effect.
• Mirror Ball: Nothing says “party” like a mirror ball! This costume featured a two-way mirrored mask, acrylic mirrored panels on a sleek bodysuit, and matching boots and gloves that shimmered under club lights.
• QR Code: Interactive genius! A working QR code helmet and illuminated suit added a tech-savvy twist to the lineup.
• Rainbow Unicorn: Glittering fantasy come to life with a rainbow mane, sequin wings, and a flamenco-inspired dress.

Every detail was crafted to perfection—from mirrored panels that gleamed like a disco dream to animated tongues that added a cheeky edge. Whether it was creating mobility for giraffe stilts or ensuring the unicorn's horn stayed dazzlingly golden, we made it happen. We pushed the boundaries of materials and techniques to bring these larger-than-life creations to reality. From bespoke printing to LED programming, we ensured every detail not only wowed but also lasted the long haul of a cruise schedule. Every stitch and sparkle was engineered with comfort, durability, and the performers’ needs in mind.
