A Giant Fortune Cat Knows Your Future… Do You?

If you were in Brighton last Saturday, you might have stumbled upon something mystical. Something giant. Something… watching you.
Meet our Giant Fortune Cat duo, the show-stealing stars of Brighton’s White Night Festival in Jubilee Square!
Brighton’s White Night Festival – A Citywide Spectacle
Every year, the White Night Festival transforms Brighton into a playground of light, art, and interactive installations, making the most of that extra hour gifted by the end of British Summer Time.
For this year’s event, we teamed up with visionary artists Sam Hewitt and Shardcore to create a pair of towering, otherworldly fortune cats—ready to answer life’s biggest questions.
Fortune Telling, But Make It Giant
These weren’t your average lucky cats sitting on a shop counter. Oh no. These were enormous, animatronic, and eerily wise. With a wave of their mechanical arms, they doled out cryptic, cheeky, and occasionally profound fortunes to curious festivalgoers.
Building them took a mix of artistry and serious engineering:
🔹 Carved Polystyrene Structure – Each Giant Fortune Cat was sculpted with precision for maximum impact.
🔹 Jesmonite Hard Coating – Tough enough to handle thousands of fascinated visitors (and a few overexcited ones).
🔹 Animatronic Arms – Controlled by the brilliant Steve Carpenter, giving them that eerily hypnotic movement.
A Festival Favourite
From the moment they were unveiled, the Giant Fortune Cats became an instant crowd magnet. Festivalgoers lined up, eager to ask their most burning life questions, only to be met with wisdom… or maybe a playful riddle.
Their striking size, interactive nature, and touch of the uncanny made them a standout moment at the festival—one that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
